OMA Wopo Index Online Analyzer
The full-spectrum Wobbe index analyzer is used to measure the interchangeability of natural gas.
Quickly measure the fuel’s exchangeability (Wobbe index) and component concentrations online, delivering a fully automated, all-optical analyzer for you.
Product Features
Performance
Directly measure the Wobbe index Contrary to traditional techniques that rely on indirect measurements of residual oxygen, the OMA employs purely optical methods to directly measure the concentration of fuel’s chemical components and outputs the Wobbe index. Fast, continuous measurement Overall response time is less than 10 seconds. Indium Gallium Arsenide Semiconductor Technology Especially stable performance
Reliability
No need for real-time human monitoring. Automatic zeroing function with timing Secure and worry-free internal design Fuel never enters the inside of the analyzer. Customizable alarms and outputs 4-20mA analog output, MODBUS, HART, etc. View technical specifications
Total cost
Non-consumable Only consumes zero gas. Low maintenance Simply wipe the lenses regularly. All-solid-state structural device Since it has no moving parts, its stability far surpasses that of competing products.
Compatibility
Direct measurement of high-temperature/water-containing samples The sample can withstand temperatures up to 66 degrees Celsius and pressures up to 3600 psig. Explosion-proof certificate Class I Div 1 & 2; ATEX; GOST... View certifications Class I Div 1 & 2; ATEX, IECEx, EAC, and more. No-analysis cabin Can be installed independently outdoors.
Application areas
The Wobbe index reflects the calorific value of a fuel gas and takes into account the proportional relationship between the calorific value and the specific gravity (the ratio of the density of a given fuel gas to that of air). More precisely, this specific gravity is directly proportional to the flow velocity of the fuel gas passing through a fixed throttling area under constant pressure—and thus, it is also directly proportional to the calorific value.
This measurement is particularly important for this application, as it can help operators quickly determine the interchangeability of two or more different gases. Such measurements are indispensable in flare systems or natural gas metering stations.
Technical concept
To analyze the concentration of chemical components in the sample gas, the OMA employs infrared technology and is equipped with an InGaAs indium-gallium-arsenide sensor. This analytical instrument can detect wavelengths ranging from 1550 nm to 1850 nm and quantifies the light absorbed by the sample gas. The OMA then plots this data to produce a high-resolution absorbance spectrum.
OMA employs a long-life tungsten light source to emit an optical signal into the flow cell. This optical signal is transmitted to the flow cell via optical fiber and comes into contact with the sample gas flowing through the cell. Depending on the varying total component concentrations in the sample gas, different levels of absorbance will be observed.

Sample system
The sampling system of the OMA Wobbe Index Analyzer enables the analyzer to quickly, automatically, and reliably obtain Wobbe index data for natural gas.
The preprocessing includes the following main components:
- NEMA 4 Powder-Coated Carbon Steel Enclosure
- Densimeter and Pressure Sensor
- Particle filter
- Sample gas inlet pressure regulating valve
- Calibration air inlet pressure regulating valve
- Sample gas inlet flowmeter
- Sample gas bypass loop flowmeter
- Automatic zeroing uses a pneumatic three-way valve.
- Manually calibrated three-way ball valve
- Explosion-proof heater
- Sample reflux check valve
- The materials used for the parts that come into contact with the sample gas during pretreatment include: 316 or 316L stainless steel, fluororubber, polytetrafluoroethylene, and quartz glass.
